Psychological Evaluation & Testing in Los Angeles, CA
-
You might consider a psychological evaluation when something isn’t working the way it should — academically, professionally, emotionally, or in daily life — but the reason isn’t fully clear. These assessments help answer questions like why focus feels difficult, why learning has been inconsistent, why anxiety or burnout keep returning, or why past diagnoses haven’t fully explained your experience. A comprehensive evaluation looks at how you think, learn, regulate emotions, and navigate the world, providing a clear understanding of strengths, challenges, and underlying patterns. The goal isn’t just a diagnosis — it’s practical clarity and tailored recommendations so you can move forward with the right supports, strategies, and direction.

ADHD and autism testing answer specific diagnostic questions. A psychological evaluation is recommended when the picture is more complex or unclear and a full understanding is needed before making treatment, school, or life decisions. A comprehensive psychological evaluation is recommended when there isn’t a single clear explanation for the challenges someone is experiencing. Rather than testing for one condition, we look at the full picture to understand how cognitive, emotional, learning, and neurodevelopmental factors interact.
That differentiates it from ADHD/ASD immediately. In short:

If your goal is work or school accommodations, the right testing depends on why support is needed — attention, learning, autism-related needs, or emotional factors. Most accommodation requests require a focused evaluation of the area affecting functioning, such as ADHD testing for attention and executive functioning, academic testing for learning differences (like dyslexia), or a broader psychological evaluation when multiple factors may be involved. The purpose isn’t just to diagnose, but to document how these challenges impact daily performance so clear, appropriate accommodations can be recommended and supported. In short:
Educational testing or Psychoeducational Evaluation Core focus: Learning and academic functioning.

Typical components

academic achievement testing
processing measures
attention screening

Yes. A comprehensive private evaluation that documents a diagnosis or functional impairment can be used as supporting evidence when requesting school-based services. Public school districts are required to review and consider outside assessment results when determining eligibility for supports and accommodations. Private evaluations often provide a more in-depth look at cognitive, academic, and emotional functioning, offering insights that may not always emerge through school-based testing alone. This information can help clarify a student’s needs and strengthen the process of requesting accommodations through a 504 Plan or specialized services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

What is a Psychological Evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps clarify what's going on when something feels off, whether that's difficulty concentrating, unexplained emotional struggles, or a sense that you or your teen isn't reaching their potential.
Using a combination of interviews, evidenced-based standardized tests, and observation, I'll build a clear picture of your cognitive, emotional, behavioral, academic and neurodevelopmental functioning. The process is tailored to your specific concerns, not a one-size-fits-all checklist.
You might consider an evaluation if you're seeking answers about Autism (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), intellectual giftedness, learning differences, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or other conditions that haven't been clearly diagnosed. Many clients come to me after years of feeling misunderstood, and find that having a thorough, well-written report finally gives them language for their experience and a roadmap for moving forward.
