Frequently asked questions.

How will I know that we are a good fit?

You won’t! Or maybe you’ll know right away! Rapport develops as the relationship unfolds over time. I treat the 15 min phone consult and the intake session as a “trial” and will check in with you at the end of both. I encourage you to “shop around” and be honest with therapists on what you need and like. My feelings will not be hurt if you decide to go another route, and I will help provide you with referrals if you want someone with specific identities, style, or background.

What kind of therapy is right for me?

Many factors go into selecting what kind of therapy is helpful or most resonates with you, there is no one size that fits all. I use an integrative approach so that I can flexibly attend to, and tailor therapy to your needs, personality, style, and (maybe even to challenge what you might be avoiding).

What’s the difference between a Psy.D, Ph.D, LCSW, LPCC, LMFT?

Psy.D’s and Ph.D’s are doctoral level therapists (psychologists), while LCSW’s, LPCC’s, and LMFT’s are masters level therapists in social work, clinical psychology, and marriage and family therapy respectively. Doctoral degrees require additional schooling in a wider range of specialities, generally more training, and can provide comprehensive psychological assessments (and so oftentimes may charge more). There are good and bad therapists at every level!

Do you take insurance?
